Bill Burr Praises ‘Digger,’ Nikki Glaser on Kids, and New Comedy Specials & Deals

Nikki Glaser, on Kylie Kelce’s “Not Gonna Lie,” discusses never wanting kids but feeling sadness that her chance for biological children is slipping away, saying she didn’t freeze her eggs. The trailer drops for Diane Morgan’s mockumentary series “Cunk on Cinema,” hitting Netflix (US) Nov. 15 and BBC iPlayer (UK). 0:01 Hello, I'm Johnny Mac with your daily comedy news. Did you see Digger yet? You need to go see Digger. Bill Burr wants you to go see Digger. Now, I thought Digger was amazing. And I'm like a, what's the word? Not a prophet, not an accolade. What am I? Evangelist. I'm an evangelist for the movie Digger. Might be some spoilers here, but you had a couple weeks and you were supposed to go see Digger. Bill Burr said critics are out of their mind for disliking Digger. Not only do they trash it, they don't even understand it. Bill talked about the movie with guest Sam Morrell on Bill Burr's Monday Morning Podcast. Bill said, I went out and saw that movie Digger, and I gotta keep bringing this up.
46 You gotta see it, dude. Critics are out of their minds. Tom Cruise is unbelievable. You should win the Oscar for that. Him and John Goodman were unbelievable. These effing critics, all they do is bitch. Burr said, minor spoilers here. The film reminded him of Dr. Strangelove, and I agree with that. Burr said, it's fantastic. There's subtle metaphors in there. I don't want to ruin any of it. I went in, I didn't even know what it was about. I did the exact same thing. I had no idea what it was about. And then I was like, oh my goodness, this is amazing. Burr said, the stuff they say that we're headed toward, they do it in satire. It's amazing. Then he got into some spoilers. I'm not going to do that to you. I mean, it's an incredible movie. The critics, that's not going to age well, what they said about it. Later in the show, Burr said, how the F'd they get this thing made? Good for Cruise and John Goodman, all those guys saying yes to that.
28 So much fun. The critics crapped on it so bad. I was looking at my buddy I went with and I was going, wait, am I enjoying this? And he agrees with the critics. After the thing, I was like, that was effing unbelievable. That was amazing. I agree. It's a great film. What looks like a terrible film is this Nicolas Cage, John Madden movie. Have you seen Cage's impression of John Madden? It's even worse than me doing Bill Burr. Actually, let me be fair to the new listeners. I never claim to do a Bill Burr impression. I just read things in a Burr-esque cadence just to mix it up, like when I do my half-ass Foxworthy or any of my half-ass impressions. And in no way whatsoever do I think that was a Bill Burr impression. It's just he speaks in a clipped tone, and I try and do that when I read his dialogue. Okay, now that we've established that Johnny Mac doesn't think that's a good Bill Burr, I also don't think Nicolas Cage does a good John Madden. You know who does? Frank Caliendo.
18 So after that trailer came out, People kept nagging, Caliendo, can you just re-voice the entire movie? And Caliendo put out this clip. This is Caliendo voicing John Madden. You got your offensive guys over here. You got your defensive guys up here. And all these guys were running around in circles, apparently, except for that guy, maybe that guy, that guy, that guy. They're still in the same place while all this stuff is going on that doesn't really make any sense. Nikki Glaser. She loves when we talk about her almost as much as Amy Schumer does. And Nikki was on the Kylie Kelsey's Not Gonna Lie podcast. Oh, my goodness. You got to go on the podcast hosted by Taylor Swift's sister-in-law. She must be so excited. Nikki is now 42 years old and talked about not having kids. She says she never felt the pull toward motherhood, even as friends who felt the same way changed their minds now that she's older. She's facing something she didn't see coming, the chance of having biological kids slipping away. Glazer told Kelsey, I didn't freeze my eggs. It's done. To have your own is a sad thing to say goodbye to, even if you never wanted it. Nikki also said having children was nothing she actively dreamed about, nor does she feel like she was sacrificing for her career. She said, it never really occurred to me to have kids. Kylie Kelsey said, I love my kids. Well, that's good. The first trailer for Kunk on Cinema, a new mockumentary series starring Diane Morgan as Philomena Kunk has been released. If you're in the United States, the six 15-minute episodes will be on Netflix November 15th. If you're in the UK, it'll be on the BBC iPlayer. Some podcasters are known to have
52 a crush on Diane Morgan. I'm just saying that's a thing that some podcasters have. Anyway, here is Diane Morgan. I'm Philomena Kunk. And I'm looking at one of mankind's greatest achievements, cinema. I'll trace its history. What's Metropolis? Do you mean Metropolis? Talk to experts. When you were writing Die Hard, did you have any inkling that it would turn out to be a film? Um. And go behind the scenes. I've seen you in something. I'm Philomena Kunk, and this is Kunk on Cinema. The official description, Kunk will attempt to demystify it all while sitting in lumpy seats with stale popcorn, asking yourself, where did cinema come from and why? What does it want and why can't it tell us? Bunch of things got announced. Justin McKinney, he was one of the blue collar, the next generation guys. Remember that? Remember the blue collar guys, Foxworthy, Cable Guy, Engvall and Ron White? And then they attempted to do Blue Collar of the Next Generation, and there were four younger guys, and Bill Engvall acted as like the handoff guy. I was at one of the shows, which is how I got to know Justin McKinney, who is a good guy. And this article I'm cribbing from now calls him a veteran, which reminds me, 20 years have gone by, Johnny Mac. Yeah. Anyway, veteran New England comic Justin McKinney will have his sixth one-hour special. It's called It's the Little Things. It'll be on YouTube at 7.30 p.m.
08 Eastern. And it's Eastern Standard Time now, so we'll just keep that in mind. We changed the clocks. November 23rd. McKinney's New Hour turns the everyday frustrations of middle age into a self-deprecating romp. Reflecting on marriage, parenting, and suburban life, he minds both difficult and mundane moments as he riffs on rising costs, his 30-year marriage, his teenage boys who ignore his texts while tracking his every move, and the seemingly impossible task of taking a nap without being judged. At its heart, the special is about a husband and father who loves his family, even if he would really appreciate a little privacy, some cooperation, and a half hour of sleep. He filmed it at the Palace Theater in Manchester, England. Interesting. Also in the official bio here, it says he began his stand-up career in the late 90s when he relocated to New York City from rural Maine and became a regular on the New York City club scene. And no mention of Blue Collar of the Next Generation. That is fascinating.
59 Zarna Garg will have a special on Netflix. We're told that this special will go where Garg previously hasn't, embracing being American and that she finds being an American isn't half bad. She discovered the beauty of saying no. She's learned to accept her kids' dating choices and is even encouraging people to go get therapy, but not for her, of course. This is Zorna Garg's third stand-up special overall, her first for Netflix. In a statement, she said, No one expected a short, chubby brown woman to sell out iconic venues around the world and, much to her own chagrin, become a feminist icon. It's a milestone on the way to the tombstone. Drewski hosts Saturday Night Live this week, and what a coincidence! He got a deal announced the week he's hosting SNL. Funny how that happens. He has signed a multi-year deal with Streamr. Under the deal, Drewski and his four lifers entertainment will develop original content exclusively for Netflix. First up, a semi-scripted comedy series called Collect and Praise, starring Drewski and Mike Epps. That's based on a megachurch pastor character. Drewski has played in a video that collected millions of social media views. Druski said, I've built my platform by creating characters and comedy that resonate with people. This partnership with Netflix will give me the resources to build on that comedy foundation, bring my work to a new global audience. It's a tremendous opportunity for our team, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. One of the Netflix suits said, Druski has a gift for building characters that people can't stop talking about. We want the best talent in the world to bring us their most ambitious work, reach new audiences, and build their brands, blah, blah, blah.
25 Build their brands is... I want to yell at the corporate executive. When you start talking about brands, you just sound like a suit. And it just sounds like you might as well come out and say, we feel like we can make money off Drewski. Never use the word brands. It always just sounds lame, lame, lame. All right. Miss Pat is going to host America's Funniest People for VH1. Apparently, VH1 is still a channel. News to me. Who knew? America's Funniest People is an all-new comedy competition series starring Miss Pat. It'll premiere Monday, November 16th on VH1, which is, I don't know, it's not on YouTube TV. I don't know how I would watch VH1, but I'm rooting for you, Miss Pat. We're told the series delivers a louder, wilder, and more unfiltered take on funny, bringing outrageous creator-led content and laugh-out-loud competition to VH1. New episodes will air back-to-back every Monday at 9 and 9.30 East and West. I'll be watching football. From savage jokes and wild stunts to outrageous pranks, questionable decisions, and unforgettable viral moments, each episode showcases the kind of social content you can't believe someone actually posted. With her fearless humor and unapologetic perspective, Miss Pat brings her signature comedic style to the competition as three hilarious content creators go head-to-head for a cash prize. John, did you say three? Yes, listener, I am as surprised as you as three?
48 Three. Three. Not 24, 16, 12, 3. Okay, Ms. Pat said, truly thankful to continue expanding my partnership with Paramount, VH1, and BET Studios, and to start a new relationship with V10 Entertainment. I love that America's Funniest People is a real clip show with a whole lot of Ms. Pat in it. It's funny, and I get to do what I do best, say what everybody else is thinking. Everybody else is thinking, 3? A different suit? said, Miss Pat is a force of nature. BET Studios knows firsthand the energy and authenticity she brings to everything she does. We're thrilled to build on our growing partnership with Paramount and bring this exciting new series to audiences on VH1. And did you ever wonder what things are like at The Daily Show? Well, Jon Stewart has posted a behind-the-scenes video. We learn that the day starts with a 9.30 a.m. morning meeting. The rotating anchors show up to the writers' room on separate days. They gather with the team to plan the night's episode. There's a whiteboard split into four acts and a screen with the script. The writers cycle through Fox News segments and clips from Trump rallies for inspiration. Two hours later, the team meets in the Fishbowl for script assembly, where they work with the host on specific jokes then after lunch the host do guest prep we see ronnie chang working on his guest work then at 2 30 the host man the desk in front of an empty studio audience for rehearsal at 5 15 wardrobe when the host and field correspondents get fitted for showtime just before six the guests arrive and at six the host walks onto the soundstage to greet the studio audience where they tell quick stories and take questions from fans The rest is television magic. Oh,
21 beloved New Yorker Tracy Morgan. Yeah, New Yorkers, we can't get enough of Tracy. Keep putting him on TV. He's got a new sitcom on NBC and thus NBC is promoting it. And Tracy Morgan went by the Today Show. Us New Yorkers know one thing, that it's all about glimpses. You come to New York City and you want a glimpse of a better life, of all these things, and we got a glimpse. That's why four million people were side to side, looking to see a glimpse. Now we want another glimpse. And I rode on the float with Jalen. We saw you. And it was incredible. He would get out with the float, me and my cousin Nas. Nas is my cousin. So we went to game four. And after that game, everybody was stunned. And nobody wanted to leave. I was there. Yeah, we spoke. Nobody wanted to leave. And it was just immaculate.
17 It was like Franco Harris catching the pass. Yeah, you're right. The immaculate conception. Nick's in five. Someone left you a little message, Tracy Morgan. Take a look. Hi, Mr. Jordan. It's me, Kenneth Parcell from the NBC Page Program. I'm here on the show today. Please remember to behave, indoor voice, not the no-no words, and just remember to treat pages like people. We sort of are. In breaking news, a local podcaster has posted the same thing into his script twice in one show. Here is where I would tell you for a second time about the cunk special. I could edit this out, but that's no fun. So we're just going to skip over that because we did that already, John. Let me tell you about Chris Fleming and Bob Odenkirk. Rachel Cayley has an off-Broadway solo comedy show. It is produced by Bob Odenkirk.
08 It is directed by Chris Fleming. Rachel says Chris was really good at being like, don't forget your stand up. This is a comedy show. Sometimes you're in a theater, you have certain instincts. He was really good at keeping me honest about what I'm doing. The show is called Hospital Hour. Odenkirk said it made me laugh. It surprised me with where it went. It's about going to the hospital many, many times, but it's about Rachel's very unique life growing up in New York, her offbeat family. It's really well scripted. There's jokes coming constantly. It's very character based. You get to know her very quickly. You get to know her rhythm. I want to remind Bob Odenkirk, there's no such thing as very unique. It's either unique or not unique. And that's one of my pet peeves. Odenkirk said her comedy reminds me of Kathy Griffin, Margaret Jo, Janine Garofalo. Chris Fleming was asked, what do theaters and hospitals have in common? It sounds like a setup for a joke. And maybe it is because Chris Fleming said soundcheck in the theater is very similar to being in a hospital. There are also some FAQs. How long is Bob Odenkirk Presents Hospital Hour? The answer, the running time of Bob Odenkirk Presents Hospital Hour is one hour. No intermission.
05 Next question, where is Bob Odenkirk Presents Hospital Hour playing? The answer, Bob Odenkirk Presents Hospital Hour is playing at the Night Egg at the Culture Club. The theater is located on 530 West 27th Street, New York. And knowing a little about New York, an address with a 530 in it is going to be pretty darn far west. That is your comedy news for today. I will see you tomorrow. Oh, I'm supposed to tell you, ring the bell, like and subscribe. If you want to listen to the audio podcast, follow it on an app. I'm supposed to do all that stuff, so I just did it.
