Johnny Mac reports Nikki Glaser said she has imposter syndrome while appearing on the Night of Too Many Stars lineup with major comics and actors, calling it a dream moment where she’d rather observe than insert herself. NBC canceled Jimmy Fallon’s marketing-competition show On Brand after weak ratings and erratic scheduling, but ordered a Wordle-based game show executive produced by Fallon and hosted by Savannah Guthrie. Jimmy Kimmel will host a fifth season of Celebrity Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? on July 22. At Netflix Is a Joke, Jelly Roll asked audiences to put phones away during his stand-up debut, delivered self-deprecating jokes about nerves and weight loss, and later sang “Friends in Low Places,” with Andrew Schulz headlining and other comics appearing. Schulz announced Akaash Singh is leaving the Flagrant 2 podcast to focus on stand-up. The trailer for Kevin Hart’s 72 Hours and Hulu’s June 5 Hannah Berner special are noted, along with Carol Burnett reminiscing about learning slapstick and an interview with Toronto comedian Tyler Morrison about influences and pre-show habits.

Callaroga Shark Media.

2
00:00:10.240 --> 00:00:13.000
Hey there, I'm Johnny Mack with your daily comedy news.

3
00:00:13.000 --> 00:00:17.640
And apparently Nicki Glazer has imposter syndrome. She says, I think,

4
00:00:17.760 --> 00:00:20.199
who did I trick? How lucky am I have gotten

5
00:00:20.199 --> 00:00:23.640
to this place? She said this at Netflix's Night of

6
00:00:23.719 --> 00:00:26.920
Too Many Stars. Nicky was on a bill that included

7
00:00:26.920 --> 00:00:30.000
Steve Crell, Tiffany Hattis, Jimmy Kimmel, John mulaney, Ally Wong,

8
00:00:30.120 --> 00:00:33.600
dramatic actor Adam Sandler, and Comedy Survivor winner Sarah Silverman.

9
00:00:34.039 --> 00:00:35.880
Nicky said to feel like I'm on the same lineup

10
00:00:35.880 --> 00:00:37.479
as them. It's just too much to take in. I

11
00:00:37.520 --> 00:00:39.119
don't think about it too much. I just think, who

12
00:00:39.119 --> 00:00:40.719
did I trick? How lucky am I ever gotten to

13
00:00:40.759 --> 00:00:43.039
this place? Tonight? She called the Night of Too Many

14
00:00:43.079 --> 00:00:45.159
Stars a moment you always dreamed about if you ever

15
00:00:45.200 --> 00:00:46.640
made it to this level of the people you get

16
00:00:46.679 --> 00:00:48.039
to hang out with. I'm just gonna be kind of

17
00:00:48.079 --> 00:00:50.840
a wallflower and observing more than inserting myself into anything.

18
00:00:51.320 --> 00:00:54.240
Bad news for Jimmy Fallon. One of his shows was canceled.

19
00:00:54.280 --> 00:00:56.439
No now that one. The other one he was doing,

20
00:00:56.439 --> 00:00:59.600
a show called on Brand, which followed Jimmy Fallon as

21
00:00:59.640 --> 00:01:01.960
he started a marketing agency and filled it with the

22
00:01:02.000 --> 00:01:05.120
most creative, clever, and competitive go getters he could find.

23
00:01:05.640 --> 00:01:08.560
The series did not perform well in the ratings. The

24
00:01:08.599 --> 00:01:10.319
time slot was all over the place and the fall

25
00:01:10.359 --> 00:01:12.760
It was Tuesdays at ten, sometimes it was Friday at eight.

26
00:01:12.840 --> 00:01:15.359
Sometimes there was an NBA game in both those timeslots.

27
00:01:15.879 --> 00:01:18.760
In each episode of On Brand, contestants worked with a

28
00:01:18.760 --> 00:01:21.120
major brand in need of a big idea for a massive,

29
00:01:21.239 --> 00:01:24.879
high priority campaign. The sales deportmat liked the idea. Jimmy

30
00:01:24.879 --> 00:01:27.599
Fallon had told a panel, it's so beyond product placement.

31
00:01:27.640 --> 00:01:29.719
We're giving you forty minutes as opposed to a thirty

32
00:01:29.719 --> 00:01:31.959
second spot. I'm talking about your brand for a whole hour.

33
00:01:32.400 --> 00:01:35.680
Well that didn't work, but better news for Jimmy Fallon.

34
00:01:36.439 --> 00:01:40.079
NBC announced a series order for Wordle, a game show

35
00:01:40.120 --> 00:01:43.519
based on the popular New York Times game puzzle. Jimmy

36
00:01:43.560 --> 00:01:46.799
Fallon will be the executive producer. Today's Show host Savannah

37
00:01:46.879 --> 00:01:50.319
Guthrie will host the show. Jimmy said, I feel very

38
00:01:50.319 --> 00:01:52.400
honored to be working with Savannah Guthrie on the show.

39
00:01:52.439 --> 00:01:55.480
Savanna has that rare combination of intelligence, charm and warmth

40
00:01:55.480 --> 00:01:58.480
that makes everybody feel instantly welcome, and she obviously knows

41
00:01:58.519 --> 00:02:01.439
how to host a show. In a really hacky statement,

42
00:02:02.000 --> 00:02:04.519
when I emphasize words there in camps here, it was

43
00:02:04.560 --> 00:02:07.599
a nod to wordle having five letter words. Jimmy said,

44
00:02:07.640 --> 00:02:11.039
I am super proud and happy, and I think we

45
00:02:11.120 --> 00:02:17.080
developed a solid gamer for prime time. Yikes. Jimmy Kimmel

46
00:02:17.120 --> 00:02:19.479
will host Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. It will

47
00:02:19.520 --> 00:02:22.560
return for a fifth season Wednesday, July twenty second, at

48
00:02:22.639 --> 00:02:25.960
eight o'clock. I'll be at volleyball. It's Celebrity a Millionaire.

49
00:02:26.000 --> 00:02:28.039
I hate the celebrity versions. I get it, but like

50
00:02:28.080 --> 00:02:30.840
I hate the celebrity versions. We'll see if Jimmy winds

51
00:02:30.879 --> 00:02:33.080
up taking the summer off, or if he takes my

52
00:02:33.120 --> 00:02:36.439
advice and stays hosting. Jimmy Kimmel live himself to capture

53
00:02:36.439 --> 00:02:38.759
some of the soon to be displaced Colbert audience. So

54
00:02:38.800 --> 00:02:41.599
we're going to talk about that this week. Yahoo wants

55
00:02:41.639 --> 00:02:43.840
to see jelly Roll at the Netflix as a Joke

56
00:02:44.000 --> 00:02:47.039
Comedy festival. Jelly Roll asked the crowd to put the

57
00:02:47.080 --> 00:02:50.400
phones down. Why he wanted to tell some dirty jokes

58
00:02:50.520 --> 00:02:53.520
without videos. Ending up online the next day, or worse,

59
00:02:53.599 --> 00:02:56.879
getting him canceled. The person from Yahoo was there said,

60
00:02:56.919 --> 00:02:58.360
when I put my own phone down and looked around,

61
00:02:58.400 --> 00:03:00.159
I didn't see a single one in the air. I

62
00:03:00.199 --> 00:03:03.080
personally haven't seen any jelly Roll clips, not that I looked,

63
00:03:03.639 --> 00:03:06.360
we are told. While making his stand up debut, jelly

64
00:03:06.439 --> 00:03:09.599
Roll seemed a little unsure, a little wired, his hands

65
00:03:09.680 --> 00:03:12.599
visibly trembling as he gripped his notes. He joked, I

66
00:03:12.599 --> 00:03:14.199
think the last time I was this nervous, I was

67
00:03:14.199 --> 00:03:16.520
in front of the parole board. He joked about his

68
00:03:16.560 --> 00:03:19.120
weight loss journey and how that has changed his approach

69
00:03:19.159 --> 00:03:22.000
to intimacy, saying for a long time he really only

70
00:03:22.039 --> 00:03:24.719
had one move, which was Ley in prey. This joke's

71
00:03:24.719 --> 00:03:26.319
pretty good. You know how hard it is to write

72
00:03:26.319 --> 00:03:29.000
a country song and rhyme the word ozempic. I'm from

73
00:03:29.039 --> 00:03:31.439
a competitive family. My mother was fat, my father was fat,

74
00:03:31.439 --> 00:03:32.680
and my brother was fat, and I made it a

75
00:03:32.719 --> 00:03:35.159
point to be the fattest. Yeah, who says it wasn't

76
00:03:35.159 --> 00:03:37.479
perfectly polished, and that was part of the appeal. Jelly

77
00:03:37.560 --> 00:03:39.759
Roll never pretended to be anything other than exactly what

78
00:03:39.759 --> 00:03:41.960
it was In that moment, The first timer figuring out

79
00:03:41.960 --> 00:03:44.360
on the fly. He told the audience, I wanted an

80
00:03:44.360 --> 00:03:46.599
opportunity to show people that I don't take myself as

81
00:03:46.599 --> 00:03:49.319
serious as the music would assume. If we take anything

82
00:03:49.360 --> 00:03:53.319
from tonight, it's don't take anything too serious. The headliner

83
00:03:53.400 --> 00:03:56.159
was Andrew Schultz, who were told brought his signature rapid

84
00:03:56.159 --> 00:04:00.199
fire energy. Jeff Ross and Tony Hinchcliff were also there,

85
00:04:00.360 --> 00:04:04.000
perhaps rehearsing for the roost. Also on this show, very

86
00:04:04.080 --> 00:04:07.080
edgy show, Big Jay Okerson, Adam Ray, and Josh Adam Myers.

87
00:04:07.599 --> 00:04:10.199
Jelly Roll returned to the stage to sing Friends in

88
00:04:10.199 --> 00:04:14.360
Low Places. Speaking of Andrew Schultz, he had made this announcement.

89
00:04:14.479 --> 00:04:18.319
Akash Singh has left the Flagrant two podcast. I'll let

90
00:04:18.399 --> 00:04:19.399
Andrew tell you about that.

91
00:04:19.920 --> 00:04:21.800
We got to address the elephant in the room. No

92
00:04:21.839 --> 00:04:24.040
pun intended, as I'm sure you guys where a boy

93
00:04:24.079 --> 00:04:26.879
are cash? She really went through it earlier this year,

94
00:04:27.519 --> 00:04:31.399
showed amazing resilience. He's made the decision to focus all

95
00:04:31.439 --> 00:04:33.920
of his energy on stand up. He is going to

96
00:04:33.959 --> 00:04:35.360
be stepping away from the pod.

97
00:04:35.560 --> 00:04:38.279
Johnny, you never mentioned Kevin Hart. Well, there's a trailer

98
00:04:38.399 --> 00:04:41.360
for the new movie seventy two Hours, which stars Kevin

99
00:04:41.399 --> 00:04:44.720
Hart and Marcello Hernandez, who does one thing well. Also

100
00:04:44.759 --> 00:04:47.399
in this Thing, Cam Patterson, who perhaps made his last

101
00:04:47.439 --> 00:04:50.560
SML appearance last night, and Ben Marshall, one of the

102
00:04:50.759 --> 00:04:54.839
Please Don't Destroy guys not the worst cast told you

103
00:04:54.879 --> 00:04:57.399
about this before. Seventy two Hours centers on Kevin Hart

104
00:04:57.399 --> 00:04:59.720
as a forty year old executive. How old is Kevin

105
00:04:59.720 --> 00:05:05.920
Harr playing forty Kevin Hardy's forty six? Okay, see, I

106
00:05:05.920 --> 00:05:07.800
would have guess Kevin Horant was in his fifties already,

107
00:05:07.800 --> 00:05:09.079
so I'm not sure I buy him as a forty

108
00:05:09.120 --> 00:05:11.000
year old executive who wants to give his career boost.

109
00:05:11.040 --> 00:05:13.040
He hopes to accomplish that by joining a group of

110
00:05:13.040 --> 00:05:16.079
twenty somethings at a wild bachelor party weekend in Miami,

111
00:05:16.560 --> 00:05:18.240
and of course, one of the co stars it's more

112
00:05:18.279 --> 00:05:20.399
solo her Nanez. I think we know how this is

113
00:05:20.439 --> 00:05:23.120
gonna go. There's a trailer. I want to pull it

114
00:05:23.160 --> 00:05:25.879
for you. It just doesn't work for the podcast, Ben

115
00:05:25.920 --> 00:05:28.160
Marshall told The Hollywood Reporter was my first time being

116
00:05:28.199 --> 00:05:30.199
an actor for hire, But I'm also interested in doing

117
00:05:30.240 --> 00:05:32.839
something a bit more grounded. A rom com would be cool.

118
00:05:33.079 --> 00:05:36.480
Hannah Berner will have a special. It's on Hulu. Sorry, Hannah.

119
00:05:36.480 --> 00:05:39.160
Hannah Burner is none of my Business June fifth, She says,

120
00:05:39.199 --> 00:05:40.879
I'm so proud of the special. I can't wait for

121
00:05:40.879 --> 00:05:43.160
people to see it. It feels like you've been painting

122
00:05:43.160 --> 00:05:44.680
something for a long time. I don't know why I'm

123
00:05:44.759 --> 00:05:47.000
using paint as an example, but the masterpiece is finally

124
00:05:47.000 --> 00:05:48.720
dotted and I'm ready to show it to the world.

125
00:05:49.199 --> 00:05:51.680
In Hannah Burner None of My Business, Hannah Burner gets

126
00:05:51.759 --> 00:05:55.319
more vulnerable than ever, delving into her unorthodox career path,

127
00:05:55.439 --> 00:05:59.560
uncertainty around her future, dating secrets, and more. She told

128
00:05:59.639 --> 00:06:03.120
VERI what's crazy about stand up is after my first special,

129
00:06:03.120 --> 00:06:05.240
which I love so much, you then start from scratch.

130
00:06:05.319 --> 00:06:06.680
It feels like you won the Super Bowl and then

131
00:06:06.759 --> 00:06:08.959
you have to learn how to play football again. When

132
00:06:08.959 --> 00:06:10.480
the tour was done, I booked a ton of clubs

133
00:06:10.480 --> 00:06:12.160
where I just went on stage with a notebook and

134
00:06:12.199 --> 00:06:14.240
basically read off my premises, so everyone knew I was

135
00:06:14.279 --> 00:06:16.680
working on material, and I literally was like, is this funny?

136
00:06:17.000 --> 00:06:19.120
For my sophomore special. I'm so proud of it. Because

137
00:06:19.120 --> 00:06:20.879
you're better at writing, you're better performing and it was

138
00:06:20.920 --> 00:06:23.079
a slow process of just trying out new jokes, and

139
00:06:23.079 --> 00:06:24.399
once I felt like I had the hour, I was like,

140
00:06:24.439 --> 00:06:27.399
we're ready for theaters. I did sixty five shows before

141
00:06:27.399 --> 00:06:29.399
I shot this special, so the material is tried and

142
00:06:29.439 --> 00:06:31.959
true and practice and refined. This took about two and

143
00:06:31.959 --> 00:06:33.399
a half years to get it to where it is,

144
00:06:33.399 --> 00:06:35.560
so it's been a long run. And as you get

145
00:06:35.600 --> 00:06:38.920
nervous before shows, Anna Burner said, my friends make fun

146
00:06:38.959 --> 00:06:40.360
of me because it could be the biggest venue of

147
00:06:40.399 --> 00:06:42.480
the smallest venue. I'm always the same. You have to

148
00:06:42.519 --> 00:06:44.959
be funny, and if you take yourself too seriously, it's

149
00:06:44.959 --> 00:06:46.920
so hard to just turn that on once you're on stage.

150
00:06:47.000 --> 00:06:49.279
My green room is very relaxed. Me and my openers

151
00:06:49.319 --> 00:06:52.680
are just laughing, joking. I'm online shopping, I'm scrolling through TikTok,

152
00:06:52.720 --> 00:06:54.879
I'm on the phone with my husband. It's very chill.

153
00:06:55.319 --> 00:06:56.680
And that's a lot of me being tired and then

154
00:06:56.680 --> 00:06:58.360
knowing when I got on stage the audience is can

155
00:06:58.399 --> 00:07:00.959
inject my veins with energy and awake again. It's a

156
00:07:00.959 --> 00:07:04.199
lot of plain sleep perform. When it comes to filming,

157
00:07:04.279 --> 00:07:06.680
I do get nervous because on stage is this live

158
00:07:06.720 --> 00:07:09.319
beautiful experience. We're just in the moment. With filming, it's

159
00:07:09.319 --> 00:07:12.399
there forever. There's so many logistics and so many moving pieces.

160
00:07:13.480 --> 00:07:16.000
I had the pleasure of working with Carol Burnett one time.

161
00:07:16.199 --> 00:07:17.800
I have this little list I've been making as I

162
00:07:17.839 --> 00:07:20.759
remember these random things of celebrities that I've met, I

163
00:07:20.759 --> 00:07:23.800
have to add Carol's name to it. Carol's old people.

164
00:07:23.959 --> 00:07:27.839
She taught herself slapstick comedy. Carrol, who is ninety three, said,

165
00:07:28.120 --> 00:07:30.040
I taught myself. I just learned that you don't stiffen

166
00:07:30.120 --> 00:07:32.279
up when you're gonna fall down. I remember when I

167
00:07:32.319 --> 00:07:34.480
first got on the Gary Moore Show. We did a

168
00:07:34.519 --> 00:07:37.360
sketch that's from nineteen fifty nine to nineteen sixty two. Wow,

169
00:07:37.360 --> 00:07:39.160
we did a sketch where I had to jump out

170
00:07:39.199 --> 00:07:41.480
of a window. I said sure, because I wanted the job.

171
00:07:41.519 --> 00:07:44.319
I landed on a mattress and stupidly said thanks. I

172
00:07:44.399 --> 00:07:47.120
just thought I was gonna go splat. She remembered Jerry

173
00:07:47.199 --> 00:07:49.560
Lewis asking her, are you sure you know what you're doing?

174
00:07:50.079 --> 00:07:52.959
Because Lewis did the same kind of pratfalls. She said

175
00:07:53.000 --> 00:07:55.079
she was able to embrace physical comedy because of the

176
00:07:55.120 --> 00:07:56.600
way she grew up, I used to fly kites and

177
00:07:56.680 --> 00:07:58.879
roller skate up the sidewalks. We would climb the Hollywood

178
00:07:58.920 --> 00:08:00.879
Sign with the neighborhood kids. The boards were rickety and

179
00:08:00.920 --> 00:08:03.040
you'd get splinters, but at the top you could lean

180
00:08:03.079 --> 00:08:04.759
over and just look in Hollywood. I feel like I've

181
00:08:04.759 --> 00:08:07.680
lived a charm life with so many coincidences that have happened.

182
00:08:07.879 --> 00:08:10.680
I am thrilled as just as I reflect. I'm lucky

183
00:08:10.720 --> 00:08:12.279
that I got to work with Carol Burnett for an

184
00:08:12.279 --> 00:08:15.839
hour one time. The Toronto Guardian does this wonderful series

185
00:08:15.839 --> 00:08:19.240
where they talk to local comedians. They spoke with Toronto

186
00:08:19.319 --> 00:08:23.680
comedian Tyler Morrison, best known for his sharp tongued, darkly funny,

187
00:08:23.720 --> 00:08:27.560
and unapologetically blue collar style. He says his style is

188
00:08:27.560 --> 00:08:30.040
a mix of dark and blue collar comedy, so maybe

189
00:08:30.160 --> 00:08:33.480
he has invented dark blue collar comedy. Run with that, buddy.

190
00:08:33.879 --> 00:08:37.679
His influences include Eddie Murphy, Andrew Dice, Clay Rodney, Daserfield,

191
00:08:37.759 --> 00:08:40.759
Tom Green, Adam Sandler, Norm MacDonald and David Letterman. None

192
00:08:40.759 --> 00:08:44.159
of that's blue collar comedy? Where's the Foxworthy? Who's your

193
00:08:44.159 --> 00:08:47.720
favorite comedian growing up? Chris Rock, who's your favorite comedian now?

194
00:08:47.840 --> 00:08:50.799
Doug Stanhope. I'm not sure this is blue collar comedy

195
00:08:50.799 --> 00:08:52.919
in the fox Worthy sense of things. Maybe we should

196
00:08:53.000 --> 00:08:56.480
use like working man comedy or something. Tyler Morrison says,

197
00:08:56.519 --> 00:08:59.440
Doug Stanhope has a large volume of consistently funny Top

198
00:08:59.480 --> 00:09:01.000
Tier for two is one of the best to ever

199
00:09:01.000 --> 00:09:04.799
do at Stanhope is fantastic. Louis c. K, David tel

200
00:09:04.840 --> 00:09:06.519
and Mike Wilmot are pretty hard to top. And I

201
00:09:06.519 --> 00:09:08.840
always enjoy stand up from comics in my own generation,

202
00:09:09.039 --> 00:09:12.320
like America's foremost political journalist Andrew Schultz, Shane Gillis, and

203
00:09:12.360 --> 00:09:16.480
Adrian Appalucchi. What is your pre show ritual, Tyler Morrison?

204
00:09:16.519 --> 00:09:18.799
He said, workout during the day, have a mid afternoon meal,

205
00:09:18.879 --> 00:09:21.279
and try not to drink more than four beers before

206
00:09:21.320 --> 00:09:24.039
the show. He needs to take Johnny Max's advice, which

207
00:09:24.120 --> 00:09:26.639
is two beers not eight always. And that is your

208
00:09:26.679 --> 00:09:29.200
comedy news for today. We've got a big week coming up.

209
00:09:29.240 --> 00:09:31.759
It's the end of Stephen Colbert's Late Show, or the

210
00:09:31.879 --> 00:09:34.240
end of the late show period. I assume we'll see

211
00:09:34.279 --> 00:09:36.080
more Stephen Colbert. You know what I meant? All right,

212
00:09:36.080 --> 00:09:36.720
see tomorrow
