Why is Elmo doing Lorne Michaels? SNL x Sesame Street

Johnny Mac covers a bizarre Saturday Night Live collaboration with Sesame Street, then notes Bill Hader voices the Cat in the Hat in a new animated film (in theaters Nov. 6) and says the high-energy voice work is exhausting and unlike his 2014 SNL version, with no inspiration from Mike Myers’ take. Former SNL cast member Chloe Troast discusses on the But Also podcast why she felt relief after being fired following one season, citing behind-the-scenes comments that created dread and anxiety, while also saying coworkers later supported her; she has since appeared in projects including Tina Fey’s The Four Seasons. Larry the Cable Guy says Fox News and others took his MeatEater podcast remarks out of context. Mac questions why few upcoming stand-up specials are dated across platforms, mentions Ali G: Who Is I? is already on Prime after weak box office, reports Eric Idle canceled an Australia/New Zealand tour on doctors’ advice, urges voting, shares a Will Ferrell Madison stop story, and highlights Chloe Radcliffe’s Comedy Central billboard campaign aimed at old crushes.

11 What is going on? Elmo is doing a Lorne Michaels impression. Well, you know... It's the first time we were all together, Paul and Paul and Snuffleupagus. Hi, I'm Johnny Mac with your daily comedy news. I am not sure what is going on, but SNL is collaborating with Sesame Street for some reason. All right, everybody, we got a big show coming up, and we have some new writers joining us. How about we dive in and get right to the sketches, okay? Oh, I sketched a unicorn. Elmo sketched a dog. Me sketched a cookie. Me? I also sketched a cookie. Ooh. Om nom nom nom. Oh, can we do the El Mingo sketch?

55 Why don't we just tell everyone to scram? Get lost. Stop wasting your time watching this show. Not sure what is going on, but SNL is collaborating with Sesame Street for some reason. Bill Hader voices the cat in the new animated movie, The Cat in the Hat. the adaptation of the Dr. Seuss 1957 classic. It is the second time Bill Hader has played the Cat in the Hat, the first time on an SNL sketch in 2014. At the film's premiere in L.A., Hader said this is a different cat than the one he played on SNL, and also that he did not draw inspiration from Mike Myers' interpretation of the character. He said he's never seen that version.

35 Me neither. The high-energy voice acting wiped Bill Hader out. He said, people think it's real fun and easy. Really, it's exhausting. After every session, I'd need a nap because I'm just old. How old is Hader? Hader's probably around my age, I think. No, Hader's only 48. You don't need a nap, young man. What are you talking about? The Cat in the Hat hits theaters November 6th. Chloe Trost was on Saturday Night Live. Do you remember Chloe? Me neither. She's getting headlines. SNL star reveals why she was happy to be fired. Uh-huh, yeah, you didn't want to be on SNL for 20 years. You were happy to be fired. She lasted one season, season 49. She was on the But Also with Michael and Asher podcast.

17 She said behind the scenes comments colored her experience negatively. It changed the place for me entirely. And there was this deep sense of dread and anxiety, thinking I would have to step back in that workplace and engage with the same people that I now had a completely different relationship with. Because of the comments and because I actually realized how it worked in that time where I went like, dang, this is just hard to be in this environment. As for being fired, there was this type of psychic experience of when something like that happens and you go, oh, they're not going to take me back or I'm getting fired or whatever. And then when it does happen, you're like, I knew it. And there's some type of relief in that. Finally got that piece of news, I was relieved to know I wouldn't then have to walk into a place that I was now deeply scared of. I was like, okay, all right, now I know I don't have to be randomly nice to people that I think are quite mean or stuff like that. She said after she was fired, she got an influx of calls from everyone inside. It almost made a lot of us closer. At least for me, my relationship to them was closer because they were so kind and supportive and had my back and wanted to see me and wanted to hang out, wanted to do shills like same old, same old in that way. Since then, Khloe has appeared in Tina Fey's The Four Seasons and had roles on The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, which someone's watching, and Adults. She also guest starred in the crime thriller Furious. Larry the Cable Guy has called out Fox News and perhaps this podcast for allegedly taking his remarks about corporate America and controversial entertainers out of context.

38 Larry the Cable Guy declares, this is why I never do interviews. On Twitter, Larry the Cable Guy clarified that his comments on the October 12th episode of the Meat Eater podcast were not an ongoing grievance against corporations. Quoting the Cable Man, This is why I never do interviews, because the clips are always taken out of context. This was a lighthearted conversation before a Nebraska game in my sweet box about how back in the day, all caps, some corporations wouldn't hire some people they deemed controversial or offensive, but yet they would hire other people that were controversial and offensive. That was the conversation. Then here comes the news doing what they do best, getting clicks by taking the two-hour podcast out of context. On Fox News, the story was revised after Larry the Cable Guy said some of his comments were taken out of context and that he harbors no genuine ill toward corporations over the treatment of him. Long-time listeners know that I am friends with Larry the Cable Guy, and I've spent some time with him.

31 I'm not saying we hang out every week, but we know each other. He's come on the show. But if you hear the clips, you know that we actually know each other. I would be stunned if Dan Whitney is walking around all day going, yeah, I can't believe I didn't get that commercial 20 years ago. He is not that kind of guy. As I always say, he is the nicest person in show business, unless Jeff Foxworthy is standing next to him. Foxworthy is so nice that he somehow would make Cable Guy look mean. But Larry is awesome people to work with. There you go. Now, it is another slow news day and we're having a slow news week, it appears. And I was like, what is going on? I'm like, aren't there comedy specials coming out? So I asked AI, I didn't do deep research on this, but I asked AI, hey, what comedy specials are coming out?

13 AI says, here's what I can confirm. Netflix. Mike Tyson, Return of the Mike, November 3rd. Now, that's not exactly what I was looking for. The official Netflix website says boxing icon Mike Tyson lets loose like never before with outrageous stories, wild reflections and zero filler in this ferociously funny one man show. All right. So I'm not too excited about that. Then on November 10th, we get Janelle James How Romantic. And on November 17th, we get Mike Ward's Modest performed in French. And that's all that is Netflix going to suddenly go, oh, and by the way, there's a Mulaney special and a Chappelle special in December because they often do that. But right now, are there no big specials coming? Is there no Ricky Gervais December 28th special coming? Because if this is the list, this is a really bad year for standup comedy. AI said for Hulu, I couldn't confirm a dated upcoming special and it's announced November lineup. So apparently the Hulu publicist doesn't communicate with artificial intelligence either. And then on HBO, they said, I couldn't confirm the next premiere date. It's latest listed specials, Cate Berlant. So is nothing coming? What is going on?

21 Let me double check with a different AI. I'll ask Claude here on the fly just to make sure I'm not crazy here. Claude found November 13th. Punky Johnson's long titty short story is an audio release. And comedian CP on Hulu in December. Takara Williams on Hulu. She's the December LOL Live half-hour slot. And Claude says, Netflix, HBO, and Prime haven't dated any December stand-up yet. Expect those announcements early to mid-November. Claude on the ball says, Jason Items. Worth noting for DCN. November 6th, Funny Money, The Dane Cook Story on Netflix. And The not-so-canceled Aziz Ansari tapes tonight, close to my house-ish. He tapes his seventh special at the State Theater in New Jersey on October 29th, which is today, but that won't come out until next year.

09 So where are all the comedy specials? What is going on? Do we need to have a Netflix comedy festival every single year so everybody tapes stuff? Is that now the new norm that every other year we're going to get a ton of things and this year we're not getting much? I don't know. Hey, you know that Ali G movie that came out in theaters? It's already on streaming. Wow. Here's some numbers for you for Ali G. Who is I is with a Z. During its limited theatrical run on the weekend of October 23rd, the film brought in about $ 1. 7 million from 458 locations in the UK. The U.S. numbers remain unclear, and it is now on Amazon Prime.

49 So that thing bombed and bombed hard. Let's keep a good thought for Eric Idle. He has canceled his tour of Australia and New Zealand after doctors advised him not to go ahead. Eric Idle is 83 years old. He said in a statement, it is with great regret that on the advice of my doctors, I must withdraw from my planned and evening of idle conversation tour of Australia and New Zealand. This isn't a decision I take lightly, but when the doctors talk, I must listen. My apologies to the venues and all those who are coming to see me. Thank you for your support as ever, and I will do all I can to get back there soon. Health permitting. Meanwhile, you can still read my book, The news comes nearly four years after Eric Idle was given the all-clear following a secret battle with pancreatic cancer. He was diagnosed with the condition in 2019, underwent a treatment, and made a good recovery. Idle previously said he thought the diagnosis was a joke because his doctor had previously suggested the same illness would be a suitable way to kill off a character in a stage show called Death the Musical that Idle was writing. He told the Sunday Times, I laughed. Because I thought it was a joke, but I survived. But I basically shouldn't effing be here. Every day is extra time for me. I just hope there aren't any penalties at the end. Okay, another reminder that you're going to vote. Either do early voting today. Your phone's in your hand. Look up early voting near me.

00 It'll tell you where to go. You go vote for whoever you want to vote for. I'm not here to lecture you on that. But I am here to lecture you to vote. It is super important. So if you like Team A, go vote for Team A. If you like the other guys, vote for the other guys. If you like the independents, vote for the independents. That's on you, but you must vote. If you sit home and you don't vote and your guys don't get in, that's just on you, man. I am planning on voting in person Tuesday morning. Now, hopefully the national donuts chain will have reopened the local thing. I am dying with this. As I speak to you right now, I have a caffeine headache. because no iced coffee again this morning. They're remodeling and they need to reopen this thing. It's been a week and a half now, guys. Let's go. Got my USC hoodie on today here in the very cold basement. Will Ferrell and I could be friends. I mean, I met him once and I found him to be perhaps the coldest person I've ever met. I know that it's not his public persona, but he also likes USC football. Now, he went out to Madison to watch USC football lose just a horrible, horrible loss, killing their season. Let's not dwell on that. Let's talk about what Will Ferrell did.

00 He was there to see the Badgers beat the Trojans, and Will Ferrell made a stop at the Vintage Spirits and Grill in Madison. Local 5 spoke with the family who operates the Vintage Spirits and Grill in Madison. And said Will Ferrell was a delight and so incredibly nice. I guess they didn't ask Will Ferrell if he wanted to be a guest on Jim Brewer's show. Because if you do that, boy, you get icy cold stares from that man. He doesn't even acknowledge you. He just stares you down. Not a fan. There's ways to do that. Will, if you're mad at Brewer, you just say to the nice producer or something like, oh, I'd love to, but I don't have time today. And I go, oh, hey, you don't have to give me an icy stare, Will. Following his meal, Will Ferrell was said to have entered the kitchen while everyone in the family business was working.

43 And they all took a photo. Will could be seen in the photo aside the owners, the daughters, the grandmas. And the grandmas apparently said they were pretty happy they volunteered to help wash dishes for game day. From MPR, Chloe Radcliffe stood on a St. Paul rooftop last week yelling about her crushes. She was a few floors up from Black Coffee and Waffle Bar. Wonder if they have iced coffee. It might be worth the drive at this point. She said, why won't you notice me? Behind her was a billboard with a photo of her, says, do you have a crush on me now, Tyler? It's really funny. There are two more billboards like that in Minneapolis, but they're directed to Matt and Seth. Each has a Comedy Central logo in the corner. Radcliffe laughed and said, I guess there's no subtlety to it. I'm really desperate that my old crushes finally notice me. They never paid attention to me when I was younger. And now I'm hoping that now that I have a Comedy Central special and a billboard in St. Paul and two in Minneapolis, now they'll start noticing me. Her friend Patrick, who produced the special, is getting a drone. He says, Chloe told me about the billboard. I was like, absolutely, we should do that.

41 That's insane. And now we see it. Yeah, it's insane that we thought, let's make it hilarious. Radcliffe said she knew the three men from high school, college, and one of her first jobs at Target. She said, I spent so long feeling like the truly hot, truly cool, attractive people would never be into me because I'm weird, but mostly look weird. I have a huge thing on my face that has hair on it. There's no getting around it. I spent so many years feeling insecure about that. People go, oh, you're killing it. And I'm like, am I? I don't know. Currently, I'm in my hometown begging a man who never paid attention to me to like me. Good stuff there. That is your comedy news for today. See you tomorrow.
